How to Setup EMail Alerts for Intel (R) RAID Failure Applies to Windows
2008 Server & Windows 7
Difficulty: Moderate
This guide has step by step instructions showing
how you can setup EMail status alerts for Intel RAID array failures.
Update: As of V10.x of Rapid Storage Technology Drivers, Intel has included Built In Email Alert Feature within Management Software. If possible, try to update your old drivers to get this functionality; otherwise continue reading this guide for a workaround.
Unfortunately, Intel (R) left out the most
important EMail RAID failure alert feature in their Storage Matrix software. To get around this limitation, we will create a scheduled task that
triggers an email alert whenever event "7202" is logged by Intel
Matrix Storage Manager.
Among other events, event "7202" is logged by Intel (R) Storage Matrix Manager when a RAID array has degraded.

Once you receive the EMail alert, you will have
to login to the server to troubleshoot the problem.
Step 1: Download and Install
Intel Matrix Storage Manager from Intel's Website
(http://www.intel.com). Newer version of software is called 'Intel (R) Rapid Storage Technology'.
This software is used to run various RAID management tasks such as RAID monitoring, verification, rebuild after replacing a failed hard drive, or convert from one RAID type to another.
Step 2: Start "Task Scheduler"
by clicking on Start -> Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler

Step 3: Under Actions, Click on
"Create Basic Task". Give the task a meaningful name such as
"Intel RAID Monitor". Then Click Next

Step 4: On "Task Trigger"
Screen, select "When a specific event is logged" and click Next

Step 5: Under "When a
Specific Event is Logged" screen, select "Application" under Log
Dropdown, "IAANTmon" under Source (IAstorDataMgrSvc for
new Intel (R) Rapid Store Technology software), type "7202" in Event ID
and click Next.

Step 6: Under "Action"
screen, Select "Send an e-mail" and click Next

Step 7: Under "Send an
E-mail" screen, fill out From:, To:, Subject:, Text: and SMTP
server:, then click Next and Finish.
By default this newly created scheduled task will run only when user is logged on. To change this, open Task Scheduler then go in Intel RAID Monitor task properties, under General tab Security Options, change selection to 'Run whether user is logged on or not'.
